What inspired you to become a therapist?
I have always had a deep respect for people and the big changes they go through in life. As an educator and social worker, I love working with others to help them reflect on their lives. Over time, this led me to focus on helping moms and caregivers, supporting them through the ups and downs of pregnancy, the time after having a baby, and the early years of being a parent. My goal is to help people feel strong and capable during this important life transition.
What types of clients do you typically work with?
I work with mothers and caregivers who are navigating the stresses of pregnancy and the postpartum period. I also have experience helping those who are grieving a loss or healing from a difficult or traumatic birth experience. I focus on creating a safe space where people can heal and feel connected to others who understand what they are going through.
How would you describe your approach to therapy?
I would describe myself as a compassionate therapist. I use an "integrative" approach, which means I use a few different methods to fit what you need. A big part of my work is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps us look at how our thoughts affect our feelings. I also make sure my work is trauma-informed and respectful of my clients' cultures and backgrounds. I want our relationship to be built on trust, gentleness, and respect for your unique journey.
What can a client expect from their first session with you?
In our first meeting, you can expect a safe and supportive place to talk. We will work together to understand your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. My goal is to be a safe space for you where we can talk about what you are going through and start finding practical tools that you can actually use in your daily life.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone struggling with their mental health, what would it be?
I would tell you to be kind to yourself. We are often our own toughest critics, especially when we are trying to be the best parent or healing from something hard. Remember that your journey is your own. It is okay to look for a place where you can be yourself and talk about both the hard parts and the ways you are growing. Healing happens best when we treat ourselves with gentleness instead of judgment.
What do you hope clients take away from their work with you?
I hope my clients walk away feeling powerful. I want them to have real tools that they can use every day to feel better. Most of all, I want them to feel more connected to themselves and more confident as they navigate the big changes that come with parenthood.
Is there anything else that you'd like to share?
On a fun note, I am a huge fan of The Hunger Games and the Wicked movies! I also love to travel and I'm a total "foodie" who loves trying new meals. In my professional work, I learn so much from my clients and often experience a sense of vicarious resilience through their strength.
